The
Shangpa Kagyu tradition originated in India and Nepal. Having
received this tradition from Niguma, Sukasiddhi, thirteen
extraordinary lamas, and four root lamas,
Khungpo
Naljor spread it in Tibet.
The
main teachings in the tradition, consisting of Five Deities, the
Six Dharmas of Niguma, the Five of Khachod, and the practice of
Mahakala, spread throughout all schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The
source of Mahamudra and the origins of Dagpo Kagyu are
essentially one. The view also does not differ from that of
Mahamudra.
